NEW YORK CITY FROM ABOVE.

Back in the 1600s, New York as a trading place was becoming more and more active. That meant more space was needed. But land was expensive, so the New Yorkers found a different solution; build as large structures as possible on a single small piece of land. Gradually, buildings got taller and denser and New York became the city with one of the most recognisable skylines in the world. Especially Midtown and Lower Manhattan, owes its impressive skyline to some of the tallest skyscrapers in the world. Looking at how the city changes over time one can see that year after year, new towers keep appearing, setting higher standards with every new building.

But there are still small structures that remain untouched no matter how many skyscrapers surround them. All those buildings, from the tallest skyscraper to the smallest townhouse, all those straight streets, parks and beautiful shapes give New York City the unique and fascinating layout that no other city has.
